Lughnasadh 2025

With the arrival of summer comes warmth and relaxation. The heat at the height of the season eases the heart, allowing us to fully open to the abundance of the land. This is the time of Lughnasadh (pronounced loo-na-suh), the second celebration of the summer, and the first of the ancestral harvest festivals.

In this season we welcome in the first harvest of the year - the wheat and grains. Lughnasadh allows us a moment to revel in the hazy, lazy motions of the season while enjoying freshly baked breads and the first of the summer produce. What’s not to love?

*This gathering is open to women & femmes ages 13 and up

    Make a "Welsh Fan"

To honor the season of the first harvest we will be making a traditional wheat weaving called a “Welsh fan” that has been historically used as a house blessing. Many agrarian cultures have different traditions and handcrafts that honor the spirit of the harvest found in the grains that they grew.

    Learn Scottish Waulking

As a part of the process of creating tartan cloth to be worn as shawls, kilts or plaids, Scottish women would beat and agitate the fibers of the wool through a method called “waulking.” These actions would help tighten and strengthen the fibers. To keep rhythm and pass the time the women would sing songs that allowed them creativity to share stories of love, loss, and longing. Come learn more about Scottish Gaelic song practices as well as participating in “waulking the wool.”
