Mission statement
Nourishing Kin is a Utah-based organization offering intersectional, anti-appropriative education and embodiment practices for women & femmes of the northwestern European diaspora.
Our mission is to illuminate the pathways to reconnection with land, ancestors, and community.
The cultural heritage of the northwestern European diaspora is worth preserving, as it is founded on animist lifestyles and traditions meant to safeguard local land and communities. We seek to educate the public and promote the positive environmental and social impacts of the re-integration of these values in this diaspora.
We prioritize educating members of the northwestern European diaspora about the intrapersonal and interpersonal skills necessary to divest from the system of white supremacy and participate in communities in healthy and sustainable ways. Broadly, we foster a sense of shared purpose and social responsibility in this diaspora by illuminating their unique cultural inheritance from the diverse regions of northwestern Europe. Specifically, we facilitate frequent local gatherings for the public to participate in the folkways (music, dance, crafts, and traditions) of northwestern Europe, and offer online education for the nonlocal diaspora.
Environmental consciousness is inherent to the animist heritage of northwestern Europe and motivates individual and collective conservation efforts. We encourage these efforts by facilitating direct experiences with the land, emphasizing the diaspora’s cultural heritage of environmental stewardship, and connecting participants to resources for issues facing our largest local watershed, Great Salt Lake.
We connect this diaspora with their unique history and cultural inheritance. In turn, this allows them to better participate in environmental conservation, appreciate the diversity of different cultural heritages, and become respectful and involved community members.
