We are deep into autumn now and gather to celebrate our third and final harvest festival.  Samhain signals the beginning winter, of the dark half of the year, and of our very coziest gatherings.

After a long, plentiful summer and fall, of planting and sowing, Samhain is when the final harvest is celebrated, when the livestock are brought from their spring and summer pastures preparing for the winter ahead.  Bonfires are lit to supplement the waning sunlight and food is shared between friends, family, community and our ancestors.

While many of us may not participate directly in harvest, we recognize that privilege and celebrate those who have tended to, grown, and harvested the food we consume.  We celebrate and acknowledge their labor and strive to honor them always.  We will offer gratitude to them, to the land, to the traditions of our forebears, and to each other as we gather for our communal dinner.

As part of Nourishing Kin’s tradition, we come dressed and embodied as kin. Whichever kin you choose to honor is entirely up to you!  Ancestor kin, animal kin, earth kin, spirit kin, or other-than-human kin are all welcome.

Samhain is a time where the dividing line between this world and the world of the ancestors is celebrated at its thinnest.  We will utilize this liminal time to connect with and honor our ancestral connections.  We acknowledge that conversations and activities centered around ancestors can be difficult and will offer space to engage with that discomfort if needed during our gathering.

We will gather in an indoor space to connect with Land, Ancestors, and Community through the following activities:

  • Costumed party

  • Communal ancestor altar

  • Small selection of songs to carry you through the season

  • Engaging opportunities to create and sustain relationships with a local community of women + femmes united by shared values of reconnection, reciprocity, and respect

  • Samhain activity stations: ancestor bottles and luminaries, divination, and root veggie carving

  • Shared communal meal with soups, breads, and sides, and desserts

  • Fireside storytelling & song

Please note that this gathering is open to participants 13+. We try to open a small handful of gatherings for younger ages in case anyone has curious hearts and minds at home. We believe the themes and activities of this gathering are appropriate for a broader age group. If you plan to bring a minor with you to Samhain, please review the FAQs section on the website prior to registering.

For this gathering, we invite you to prepare for our time together by engaging with resources prior to the event. Those resources will be sent to you via email after you register here. Additional details, including address, items to bring, and food suggestions, will be sent to registrants one week prior to the event. For additional questions, please refer to the FAQ or send us an email at admin@nourishingkin.org.
