Lughnasadh 2025
With song, nature, weaving, and waulking we celebrated Lughnasadh together.
We gathered on the stage of an amphitheater that was surrounded by trees, with a small creek running alongside us, as the sun rose high in the sky.
Kierstyn joined the facilitator team for this gathering and welcomed us all to the season of Lughnasadh.
Madee invited us to participate in a nature led grief holding activity that gave us all space to feel into the complexities of grief and the way that nature can hold space for us as we come into relationship with nature.
Community member Heidi had a lush assortment of snacks and cold drinks for us to enjoy.
Alisa taught us all about Scottish Waulking and shared three different traditional Gaelic songs with us. The process of beating the wool in rhythm together with song giving us a taste of community driven practices of necessity and connection.
After we had a picnic lunch together we learned how to make a traditional wheat weaving known as a Welsh Fan. A symbol of the harvest, our time together and the turning of the season for us to all take home with us.
Below is a short video of our community members singing a tradtional Scottish Gaelic waulking song called He Mandu:
